Nexenta Core Platform 2.0 Beta 1

nexenta Anil Gulecha has announced the availability of the first beta release of NexentaThis is to announce availability of Nexenta Core 2.0 beta - an Ubuntu/OpenSolaris native environment (unstable 'Hardy' branch). The packages are relatively stable, and we've thus moved NCP to beta, and aim for a stable release early next year. Release highlights: OpenSolaris build 104+ with critical patches; over 6000 packages in the repository, and autobuilder; based on Ubuntu 8.04 LTS 'Hardy Heron' repository; includes latest APT, GCC, Binutils, Coreutils, Perl, Python, Ruby, Qt libraries, GTK+ libraries; SMF support added for server applications like Apache, MySQL, PostgreSQL, Exim; includes apt-clone which brings ZFS power to apt-get." opensolaris The OpenSolaris project has updated its web site to reflect the release of OpenSolaris 2008.11, the project's second stable release. The final live CD remains unchanged from the second release candidate (RC2), so users who have downloaded the RC2 don't need to re-download the final release. "The OpenSolaris 2008.11 operating system is a point of integration for the installation, desktop, and package management system projects on OpenSolaris.org. Today, the OpenSolaris 2008.11 live CD is available with the following feature updates: ZFS Time Slider and Songbird; suspend/resume and CPU power management; Distribution Constructor and Prototype Automated Installer; WebStack with 64-bit MySQL, CherryPy, and DTrace for Ruby; GNOME 2.24, OpenOffice.org 3.0, and Firefox 3; Many F/OSS applications added, including top, sudo and Emacs; 700 additional man pages and Package Manager online help." opensolaris David Comay has announced the availability of the first release candidate for OpenSolaris 2008.11: "The OpenSolaris development package repository has been updated to reflect the changes in snv_101 and snv_101a including major fixes to the Caiman 'Slim Install' and the Image Packaging System (IPS). This build is an initial release candidate build for the OpenSolaris 2008.11 release. For this build, the recommended minimum memory size is 768 MB or greater. Users who wish to update their system to the development build can do so using the 'image-update' facility provided by the pkg(1) command or by the 'Update All' facility of the Package Manager GUI. For important information about 'image-update', see the instructions. Important note: The development builds have undergone limited testing and users should expect to uncover issues as the next release is developed.
